C.T. Ravi

MEMBER OF LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY, CHIKKAMAGALURU

Born in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, in a middle class family with no political background, C T Ravi had a simple, modest and righteous upbringing. At high school, he became involved in the Raitha Sangha Movement in Aldoor Hobli in Chikkamagaluru. This laid the foundation for his active participation in Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad during his college days. As College Representative, and leader of the Kannada Sangha and Vidyarthi Sangha, C T Ravi honed his organisational skills and leadership quality. It was during this phase of life that he dedicated himself fully to the mission of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS).

C T Ravi soon became part of the Rashtriya Vidyarthi Okkuta, espousing the causes of fees concession and placement support for financially challenged students. This involvement acquainted him with many BJP leaders and ministers. In 1993, he became the State Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During his tenure, BJP mobilised a mass movement against land encroachment and for awareness to ensure drinking water for all, soon after which he took part in the Datta Peeta Horata movement through which he gained national recognition by enabling an amicable settlement of the long-standing religious dispute.

2004 marked C T Ravi’s formal introduction to the Karnataka political arena, representing Chikkamagaluru Constituency, where he defeated Congress’ Sagir Ahmed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections, by an overwhelming margin of more than 25,000 votes. This marked his maiden entry into Karnataka Legislature. He went on to win the 2008 and 2013 elections from the same constituency with convincing margins.

In his third term, holding charge as the Higher Education Minister in the 2008-13 Assembly, C T Ravi has been instrumental in enabling the setting up of three Polytechnic Colleges and getting one Medical College in Chikkamagaluru sanctioned. He has also brought visible development to his constituency by working to improve water, health and sanitation facilities. Additionally, he has also addressed issues pertaining to education, justice, women welfare and agriculture in Chikkamagaluru.

Gifted with keen observation and supported by a great memory, C T Ravi is now widely recognised across Karnataka as a leader of sincere intent and clean reputation. C T Ravi aims to introduce the biometric system in various educational systems while expanding the scope of private schools and colleges by bringing about a 60% fee fixation to annual expenditure. India wants a society free of discrimination, inequality and dishonesty. Its citizens now demand, from their political representatives, an action-oriented approach in solving the problems they face in today’s world, with visible and tangible results. In simple words, people vote for, and want change.

Coming from the grass-roots and having worked his way up successfully, C T Ravi has proved himself as an able and responsible leader, endearing himself to all who know him. C T Ravi has chosen this field with full responsibility and understanding. In spite of being a family man, he has chosen to re-order his priorities in life, dedicating himself to the service of the nation and its people, driven by his simple yet effective action-based philosophy – “For One, For All”.

This concept emerges from the qualities ingrained in him as a dedicated Swayamsevak of RSS, which guide him in using his position and resources for everyone’s benefit. Serving the society’s deprived calls for extraordinary dedication, purpose and professionalism, and C T Ravi’s “For One, For All” has delivered on all three counts.

Ranging from issues such as Education, Water, Health and Sanitation, to Agriculture, Justice and Women Welfare, this one theme has prevailed and has successfully addressed those areas which need attention in our society today. The theme ensures that each and every member of our society becomes the recipient of all the basic necessities for survival.

In the long run, “For One, For All” is aimed at the overall empowerment of society, and elevating the quality of life. It is developed so as to provide for all and create a sense of inclusion, thus eliminating the inequalities that affect us.

Rebuilding a fragmented society takes tremendous effort, and this is where “For One, For All” proves its effectiveness by bringing about a positive change for all.
